Center vs. Side Discharge Pumps

 Swimming pool and spa pumps are classified, in part, according to the orientation of their discharge openings. Center discharge pumps have an opening located in the center of the wet end, while side discharge pumps have an opening located on the side of the wet end. Water is propelled through the openings and flows out through the jets in your spa. Leisure Bay spa shells can last for 40 years. However, you will be replacing jets, motors, filters, heaters, and assorted fittings. There were several year models that used Waterway jets and Waterway motors. Several of these “proprietary ” parts are still available from Waterwayparts.com. Why replace your hot tub if a few parts can bring it back to life.

It is important to use original manufacture parts.

All swimming pool or spa equipment is not the same. Some manufactures use proprietary plumbing parts. As example, a course thread, sometimes referred to as a buttress thread not only comes in different sizes but the threads can have different slants. A Waterway 1.5” buttress thread will not fit on Jacuzzi 1.5” buttress threads, Sta Rite 1.5 “ unions, or Waterco 1.5” buttress threads. These fittings may look alike but they will not seal correctly. Some hot tub equipment manufactures use standard pipe thread (spt), others may use course thread. When replacing equipment in a hot tub or spa you may not have the room to use conversion fittings and still have your equipment “line up”. Spend the extra time to replace your fittings with original equipment manufacture (OEM) parts. Waterway parts (www.waterwayparts.com) only uses OEM parts.
